Active Counselling, Counselling, Nature-Based Counselling
While completing my Honours in Psychology in 2002, I worked with children and young adults with behaviour challenges in group homes in the greater Ottawa area. After finishing my degree in education, I worked in Ontario as a high school teacher and also coached various sports for students aged 10-18 for almost two decades.
I moved home to PEI during the pandemic and completed my Masters in Counselling from Yorkville University. In the 20 years of working with adolescents, young adults and parents in a variety of settings, I came to understand the value of authentic human connection and believe it forms the cornerstone of all healthy relationships.
I have experience working with trauma, depression, anxiety, and interpersonal relationships. I enjoy using a blend of therapeutic techniques, including Person-Centered therapy, Narrative therapy, ACT/DBT/CBT, Emotion- Focused therapy through the lens of Attachment Theory.
Even when a positive therapeutic rapport has been established between the client and counsellor, some people struggle sitting in an office and talking about their feelings. I believe using nature and activity as therapeutic tools to build connection will meet the needs of those clients who want something different.
